1001 saveurs des Marquises part 2/4
As we arrive at Tahuata, the wind is picking up and we need to get the spinnaker down so we try to get the wind out by the genua, hmmmmmm

Just around the corner we have wind gusts up to 37 knots. As you can see by the girls we got hit by surprise!
We chose this bay for the beach, finally blue transparent water and white sand! Manta rays all around us! They seem to be very happy to see us 😎

We have to clear in at Hiva Oa (longtime overdue, but they are cool in the Marquises 😎). The anchorage is a bit tight. Everybody needs to put a stern (‘back’) anchor to be aligned in the same way as to get as many boats in the harbour as possible 😏
We decide to go on a day trip to the other side of the island. The road is tight, very tight as at one point we have to turn in two times! The landscape is so different than on the previous islands we visited.
After 2 hours driving, we arrived at Poumou. A beautiful site of ancient tiki’s. The rain only makes it better. Beautiful colours and the smell of nature is amazing!

After a 2 hour drive back, we make it all the way back past our anchorage to visit the beautiful view of Brel and Gauguin at their last resting place.
And a bit further we visit the temple site of Taa’oa close to a spectacular waterfall.
Yeah cars are not cheap here, so you have to make the most of it 😜
To conclude our passage at Hiva-Oa, we need to get LouiseAnna out of the water as we have a propellor issue. A bit scary but the small shipyard is run by professionals!
And just before we can go back to Tahuata Geoffrey needs to get our stern anchor out of the water. We had to leave it there the day before while getting pulled out as our 25kg Delta anchor suddenly got really really stuck!
While I’m turning in circles with LouiseAnna, Geoff needs 2 hours to get the anchor out. At one point there were 5 dinghy’s around to try and help! Finally after digging the anchor out and pulling with two times 15 horsepower it came loose!
A round of applause and horns was given when he finally got it out!
Tired but happy with the evolution of the last two days we leave for Tahuata anyway. Only two hours sailing and we know the bay already, so arriving in the dark is no problem. However, having an anchor at the wrong place in the dark equals two broken toes! aaaaarrrgghhh.
Geoff by the way was so jealous that he broke a finger too. What a pair we make!

In the meantime Geoff goes out to catch “some” fish and a cargo is being deposited in the bay 😂
We’ll have a beautiful sunset dinner with … a fish 😌
